The, now, Immediate Past Master of St Wulframs, Worshipful

ST.
BOTOLPH'S LODGE No:588 MAKE DONATION TO THE HECKINGTON
AREA VOLUNTARY CAR SERVICE
£1000 from the New Benevolent Fund was donated
by the Worshipful Master of St Botolph's Lodge No:588,
W. Bro. Mike Perdeaux, to Heckington Area Voluntary Car
Service (HAVCS) in a presentation outside the Millview

The service covers the
local villages surrounding Heckington and include Great
Hale, Little Hale, Helpringham, Burton Pedwardine, Kirkby
La Thorpe, Ewerby and Evedon and provides a reliable local
transport service for people attending doctors, hospital,
dentist, chiropodist, opticians or any other medically
defined journey which will promote a person's well-being.
HAVCS also take immediate family to visit hospital patients
if they have no other means of transport and deliver prescriptions
for those unable to collect their medication. During the
last financial year they completed 1,175 journeys totalling
26,226.1 miles.
HAVCs have already been able put the donation to immediate
good use, in that it has enabled them to ensure that a
gentleman who has to undergo a daily course of radiotherapy
over a six-week period at Lincoln Hospital need no longer
worry about the expense and the logistics of getting there.
The donation has had a profound effect on all the HAVCS
volunteers who now feel that their efforts are really
appreciated by such a noble organization as that as the
Freemasons of Lincolnshire.
WILLIAM
PETERS LODGE No:6761 HELPS DOGS FOR THE DISABLED.
The William Peters Lodge No:6761 of Grantham has been
the fortunate recipient of £1000 from the New Benevolent
Fund which donates funds to non-Masonic charities and
the charity selected for this award was Dogs for the Disabled.

The photograph shows
left to right: Lodge members W.Bro. Lynn Thomas and W.Bro.
Derek Pritchard; Rachel Butler (Trust Fund Manager for
Dogs for the Disabled); and W.Bro. Bob Spruth.
Dogs for the Disabled trains dogs to assist their disabled
owners in tasks that they find difficult or impossible
to accomplish themselves. The charity is taking part in
the Desert Walk in Jordan, therefore, anyone interested
in taking part in this event should contact www.dogsforthedisabled.org
Also in the photograph is "bumble" the Labrador
trainee who, because of her excellent temperament and
size will be partnered to a disabled child.

ALEXANDRA
LODGE No:985, LONG SUTTON, HELP CHILDREN AT THE FENLAND
RIDING FOR THE DISABLED ASSOCIATION.
Brethren from the Alexandra Lodge in
Long Sutton went along to the home of Mr & Mrs John
Van Geest near Spalding to present £1000 to the
Fenland Riding for the Disabled Charity.

W.Bro. Richard Diggle,
Master of Alexandra Lodge No:985 presents the cheque to
Mrs Jane Carter, Chief Tutor, while Charli Fox and Josh
Bates look on watched by the rest of the riders.
The children vary from
those with learning difficulties to the severley handicapped
and it is obvious they get a great deal of pleasure from
mastering the skill of riding a horse. There needs to
be up to 4 helpers for each child and horse but the helpers
feel the work to be so rewarding and worthwhile.

BRO.
COLIN HOWITT OF SAINT MARY LODGE NO:7898 IN LONG SUTTON
COMPLETES A SKYDIVE, RAISING NEARLY £1000 FOR CHARITY
On a bright sunny day at Sibson Airfield, Peterborough
Bro. Colin Howitt flew into the wide blue yonder and,
in the name of charity, jumped out of a perfectly serviceable
aeroplane at 15,000 feet. With sponsorship from his Lodge,
colleagues, friends and business acquaintances he was
able to help Action Medical Research, who support many
vital research projects, to the tune of almost £1000.

Bro. Colin Hewitt
shouts with joy as he plummets from 15,000 feet strapped
below his jump instructor
One such project is 'Touching Tiny Lives'
- Action Medical Research's campaign highlighting the
urgent need for more research to help sick and vulnerable
babies. They want to raise an additional £3 million
over the next 3 years to help find answers to premature
birth, pre-eclampsia and other serious conditions which
threaten babies and expectant mothers.
Thanks in large part to advances in medical research,
the majority of babies can look forward to a healthy future.
For most families it is a time of immense joy and relief
when their child is born safely. But not all births go
as expected. Around 70,000 babies each year - that's over
10 per cent - require some sort of special care when they
are born. Tragically, over 3,000 babies die within the
first year, and premature birth is the single biggest
cause.
Colin told his sponsors that ..."My
aim is to raise as much money as possible and land safely.
With your help I will achieve the first objective. With
my sky dive buddy I will achieve the second". Just
to prove he managed both objectives safely here is a picture
of Colin thanking his buddy back on terra firma. Colin
is the one on the left with the white knuckles!

Colin would like to pass on his grateful
thanks to all his sponsors for making his fantastic sky
dive a wonderful means of supporting a most worthy charity.

CHAPTER
BIKERS OF THE ST JOHN CHAPTER NO:7840 DO THEIR THING FOR
SCUNTHORPE'S LINDSEY LODGE HOSPICE
There was a 'two-wheel feel' to the presentation of a
Masonic cheque to Scunthorpe's Lindsey Lodge Hospice from
the Chapter of St John No:7840 - not only was everyone
involved a motorcyclist, but the lady accepting the cheque
was also called Vincent! (For the non-bikers out there,
Vincent Motorcycles was a British manufacturer of motorcycles
in the United Kingdom from 1928 to 1955. Their Black Shadow
is one of the best known high performance motorcycles
of the 1950s. In 1955 the company discontinued motorcycle
production due to heavy financial losses - sounds familiar).

In our picture are,
from left, Keith, Alan, Vivienne and her husband James.
Presenting the cheque for £150 were the Most Excellent
Z Keith Elliott (Suzuki) and his 'hairy biker' ADC Alan
Mawer ('Chapter-coloured' red Yamaha), and it was accepted
by Hospice fundraiser Vivienne Vincent and her husband
James (another Suzuki).
Keith said the Chapter was delighted to help the Hospice."It's
hard to estimate the value of the work done by the staff
and volunteers, and none of us knows if, or when we, members
of our family or our neighbours might need to call on
their help. We have helped with several donations in the
past, and I am delighted to be able to do so again."
Vivienne was extremely complementary about the generosity
of members of the Craft. "The Masonic movement is
a long-term supporter of our work, and I can’t stress
how important it is to have them alongside us," she
said.
Our thanks go to Scunthorpe Telegraph photographer David
Haber who was on hand to take a picture of the event.

LORD
HENEAGE LODGE NO:5979 MAKE PRESENTATIONS TO LOCAL GRIMSBY
CHARITIES
The newly Installed Master of Lord Heneage Lodge No:5979
in Grimsby, W.Bro. Keith Le'Gallienne, celebrated the
start of his year in the Chair by presenting two cheques
for £500 each to two local charities and a further
£1000 to Grimsby Hospital.
The first picture (above) shows Keith presenting
a cheque for £500 to Denise Farman, the Manager
of the Women's Refuge in Grimsby. This money will be used
for equipment for the children in the Refuge.
The second picture (below) shows Keith presenting the
second cheque to Soundscene for £500. Soundscene
provides a weekly Talking Magazine to the blind and visually
impaired, containing local news from the Grimsby Telegraph
newspaper, a short story, and a recipe. Soundscene is
gradually moving from recording on tape to CD and the
money will be put towards the cost of CD recording equipment.
These donations form part of a total donation of £45,000
being given by Lincolnshire Freemasons this autumn to
local non-Masonic charities in Lincolnshire.

W. Bro. John Moulson, the Charity Steward of Lord Heneage
Lodge.

John Moulson, Charity Steward of Lord Heneage Lodge.
John Hardy brought Barney
the Bear along with him to help him receive the cheque.
This donation will be used to provide Teddy Bears to children
in Diana, Princess of Wales Hospital, Grimsby and is one
of many donations made to local charities by Lincolnshire
Lodges, on behalf of the New Provincial Benelovent Fund.
The following letter was
sent from the hospital:
On behalf of the Radiology Department at the Diana, Princess
of Wales Hospital, I would like to thank you for the continual
supply of Teddies. They have proved to be very popular
with the children that attend our department for X-ray.
The younger children are often upset, frightened or in
pain when they come to our department and the teddies
act as both a comfort and a reward. The Radiographers
also find them to be a very useful tool of persuasion.
When a child is frightened the Radiographer can place
the teddy on the exam table, position the equipment and
show the child what they are going to have done. Once
the child can see that there is nothing to worry about
they are more often than not then quite happy to have
the x-ray done.
Young children especially will associate X-ray with Teddies
and it is hoped that should they need to attend again
they will remember that it was a pleasant experience and
not be frightened to come again.
Many thanks for your support.

Office Supervisor
On behalf of Radiology Department.

- a great many people owe their lives to the Air Ambulance".
Dr Chris Birch on behalf of the Grantham Diabetes Centre
said "this donation will be used to purchase books
and educational equipment for our resource room in the

the blind and partially sighted.
The money came from the total of £45,000
given to local non-Masonic charities in the County from

On the 23rd of October St. pega Lodge No:8317 of Deeping
St. James were to present three cheques each amounting
to £1,000.00 to three nominated local charities
- The Deepings Men's Group, Sense East, and L.I.V.E.S.
The presentation was scheduled to take place at 2pm and
while two of the three recipients were there on time,
and despite waiting a further 15 minutes, the representative
from Sense East had not arrived. In the end the presentation
carried on without him.
W.Bro. Terence A. Wright, Master of St.
Pega together with W. Bro G. D. Cox, the Charity Steward,
presented two of the cheques to Mr John Smith the chairman
of the Deepings Men’s Group and Mr P. Ward from L.I.V.E.S.
Both were extremely pleased to receive these donations
and in the words of the Deeping Men's group...it was the
largest donation they had ever received, which will assist
them to further equip local people with disabled equipment
to ease the suffering of their lives.

The donation to L.I.V.E.S. will go to covering the insurance
required for their volunteers together with equipping
four members they have in the pipeline with a full set
of life saving equipment.
After the presentation and on returning
home W.Bro. Jeff Stocking, the Lodge Secretary who sent
in this report, found that the Assistant Director from
Sense East had had a car accident on his way to the presentation
from Spalding and that Mr Frank Smith, the Health and
Safety Officer was making his way to Deeping St. James.
He duly arrived and having called back the Charity Steward,
W. Bro G. D. Cox made the presentation on behalf of the
Worshipful Master of St. pega Lodge. Mr Smith informed
the Lodge that they had just commissioned new riding stables
for the Deaf/Blind people at Peakirk, which was being
opened by Princess Anne on the following Monday, and that
the £1,000.00 presented would go for further equipment
at the Stables.

All smiles at last as W. Bro G. D. Cox,
Charity Steward of St. Pega Lodge, presents the cheque
belatedly to Mr Frank Smith from Sense East.
W.Bro. Jeff Stocking found out later that the Assistant
Director from Sense East, who should have been there was,
fortunately, unharmed in the accident - a case of being
"shaken but not stirred".
