£1979.00 DONATION FOR ST ANDREW'S HOSPICE, GRIMSBY BESTOWED BY THE FREEMASON'S GRAND CHARITY

On 15th January a donation of £1979.00 awarded by the Freemason's Grand Charity was greatly welcomed at the end of a difficult financial year by St Andrew's Hospice, Grimsby.

Throughout 2009 the Freemason's Grand Charity has continued its extensive support for hospices across England and Wales, totalling £500,000. All donations are raised by Freemasons ad their families and aim to assist hospices in their vital role in helping those affected by terminal or life limiting illness.

W.Bro. John Board, the Assistant Provincial Grand Master, went along to present the cheque to a delighted Mrs. Yvonne Wright, Community Fund Raiser at St.Andrew's Hospice.

Mrs Wright was the first employee of the Hospice which has just celebrated its 30th. Anniversary when she joined in May 1981 as Part Time Co-ordinator and Fund Raiser - a wonderful record of service to this most worthwhile charity.

W.Bro. Board stated that "Over the last 25 years the Freemason's Grand Charity has awarded over £8 Million to hospice services throughout England and Wales. We recognise the wonderful service that hospices in Lincolnshire provide in the community, and we are delighted to demonstrate our support for these services in this way".

PAULINUS LODGE NO:3957 RECEIVE AN ORATION AND ALSO A REPORT ON TSUNAMI VICTIMS ON THE 5TH ANNIVERSARY OF THE DISASTER

On January 14th, the Provincial Grand Master, Rt.W.Bro. Graham Ives, had the pleasure of visiting the Paulinus Lodge in Lincoln to support the Provincial Grand Orator, W.Bro. Rev. John Spriggs, on the occasion of an oration on "The Letter 'G'". This was a most interesting oration and imparted much knowledge to the large number of assembled Brethren.

The learning continued with a moving report from W.Bro. John Speed of the Olive Union Lodge No:1304 on the aid the Province of Lincolnshire provides to 25 children orphaned in the Boxing Day Tsunami in 2004.

W.Bro. Speed not only gave an account of the hardships faced by the children but the wonderful strength they showed in overcoming adversity. He was able to give some heartening accounts of the success attained by some of the original orphans and details of others taken on to make the number back up to 25 being helped.

Following the oration and presentation, the Brethren enjoyed a Festive Board where the Provincial Grand Master thanked Paulinus Lodge for their courtesy in inviting himself and the Provincial Team and also wished all the Brethren well in their Freemasonry in Lincoln.

ANCHOLME LODGE NO:1282 INVITE PROVINCIAL GRAND ALMONER TO GIVE TALK

The Almoner of Ancholme Lodge No:1282, Bro. Brian Parker, who has taken on the office this year, invited W.Bro. John Grimwood to give a talk on the duties and responsibilities of the Job as Provincial Grand Almoner. The talk, which he delivered with great detail and very entertaining, gave the Lodge an insight of how important this office is and how much good it does to the Masonic members who are less fortunate than ourselves.

W.BRO. JOHN WASHINGTON PRESENTED WITH 50 YEAR CERTIFICATE

At the December meeting W.Bro. John Clements, the Liaison Officer for Yarborough Lodge No:422, presented a 50 year certificate to W.Bro. John Washington who was Initiated into Yarborough Lodge on November 9th 1959.

As a child, John Washington and his mother had moved to the Gainsborough area from Wallasey during the second world war after his home had been bombed, and he had lost his father at sea. As his father had been a Freemason it became possible in 1948 for John to attend the Masonic School for Boys in Bushey, Herts.

W.Bro. Washington is the fifth member of Yarborough Lodge to receive a 50 year certificate in recent months.

DAYLIGHT LODGE NO:9748 GIVE A TOAST TO 'BOTTOMS UP' APPEAL

W.Bro. Malcolm Forrest, Master of the Daylight Lodge No:9748 of Grimsby and his wife Lesley welcomed Consultant Colorectal Surgeon, Mr Gordon McAdam and his wife, Lisa, along to the Lodge's Christmas Luncheon to present cheques totalling £1000. The money is to go towards the 'Bottoms Up' colorectal cancer campaign at the Diana, Princess of Wales Hospital in Grimsby.

When presenting the cheques, W.Bro. Forrest also welcomed W.Bro. Stewart Oxborough, the Lodge Junior Warden, back on his first Lodge duty since undergoing successful surgery by Mr. McAdam for bowel cancer.

The monies represented a donation from the New Masonic Benevolent Fund which the Daylight Lodge made up to £1000.

W.BRO. PAT GRISDALE PRESENTED WITH 50 YEAR CERTIFICATE AT GLANFORD VALE LODGE AND ENGRAVED GLASSES BY ANCHOLME LODGE.

The December meeting of the Glanford Vale Lodge No:9769 saw W.Bro. Pat Grisdale presented with his 50 year Certificate by the Immediate Past Provincial Grand Master, Rt.W.Bro. Gordon Walkerley Smith.

W.Bro. Grisdale was Initiated into Gospatric Lodge No:5286 at Workington, in the Province of Cumberland & Westmorland on Dec 15th. 2009. In 1965 he became a Founder Member of Concord Lodge No:8113 also in that Province.

In 1968 W.Bro. Grisdale moved to Lincolnshire and evenually became a Joining Member of Ancholme Lodge No:1282. He served for many years as Secretary of the Lodge without going through the Chair for which he was awarded Provincial honours. Eventually, after more than 42 years since becoming a Mason, he eventually become Master of Ancholme Lodge.

A Founder Member of Glanford Vale Lodge, W.Bro. Grisdale was appointed as the first Secretary - a post he has just relinquished after six years.

Ancholme Lodge No:1282 also wished to record their appreciation for the service W.Bro Grisdale had rendered to Ancholme Lodge for a great number of years as well as his 50 years in Masonry. On 21st Dec 2009, the Worshipful Master, Bro. M. Malcolm Donald presented W.Bro. Pat Grisdale with a set of engraved glasses on behalf of the Ancholme Lodge and members.

SIR JOSEPH BANKS DAYLIGHT LODGE NO:9828 HELP CRUSE BEREAVEMENT CARE IN BOSTON

Bro. Andrew R. Channon, Tyler of Sir Joseph Banks Daylight Lodge No:9828 had the pleasure of presenting a cheque for £900 to Boston and District branch of Cruse Bereavement Care.

Cruse Bereavement Care exists to promote the well-being of bereaved people and to enable anyone bereaved by death to understand their grief and cope with their loss. Services are free to bereaved people. The charity provides support and offers information, advice, education and training services.

W.BRO. NORMAN WISE PRESENTED WITH 50 YEAR CERTIFICATE

A very special event took place at Olive Union Christmas Lodge when W. Bro. Norman Wise was presented with his 50 Year Certificate by W.Bro. J. C. Board, Assistant Provincial Grand Master and the Lodge's Liaison Officer.

W.Bro. Wise was Initiated in to Alar Lodge, London in November 1959 and became Master in 1976. In 1984 he moved to Daventry and continued his Freemasonry there until moving to Lincolnshire in 1988. He visited Olive Union Lodge for many years before becoming a joining member in 2007. He attends all lodges and rehearsals and was part of the Past Masters Lecture Team on this very special night.

W Bro Wise thanked W.Bro. Board for his sincere presentation and also all the brethren of Olive Union Lodge for their warmth, brotherly love and kindness since he moved to Lincolnshire.

ANCHOLME LODGE NO:1282 CELEBRATE THEIR 140TH ANNIVERSARY

A dinner was held at Elsham Hall Golf Club near Brigg to celebrate the 140th anniversary of the founding of Ancholme Lodge No: 1282 of Brigg in 1869

W.Bro. Malcolm Donald and his wife Sandra welcomed honoured guests W.Bro. John Board, the Assistant Provincial Grand Master, and his wife Diane to the event.

GLANFORD VALE LODGE NO:9769 SUPPORT OUR SERVICEMEN

Glanford Vale Lodge in Brigg continued their support of Servicemen in the County by presenting a cheque for £600 to the Soldiers, Sailors and Air Force Association (S.S.A.F.A.) for use of beneficiaries from Lincolnshire. The presentation was made at Kirton Royal Air Force Station.

ST JAMES LODGE NO:7415 PRODUCE LOTS OF Z's

A rather unique situation exists in St James Lodge in Grimsby as they are producing lots of Z's but no snoring can be heard. The Lodge has three current Zerrubabels of different Royal Arch Chapters as members - not something heard of before - unless you know different!

HORNCASTLE MASONIC CENTRE CARETAKER RETIRES.
W Bro David Robinson retired on 30th November after three years as caretaker of Horncastle Masonic Hall.

He is pictured receiving a gift from W Bro Stuart Ravell, a past chairman of The Trustees. The presentation took place at Banovallum Lodge of Instruction, that lodge being the very last at which David would prepare.

Chairman of The Trustees, W Bro Michael Carter stated that David had done a wonderful job during his time as Caretaker. On behalf of all the brethren of Horncastle Masonic Hall he wished him a long and happy retirement and said he would be a hard act to follow.

W Bro Robinson thanked everyone, said he had enjoyed his time working with us but now hoped to divide his time between Horncastle and his property in Bulgaria. The Trustees have appointed W.Bro. G.W. Storr to carry out Caretakig duties with immediate effect.

ALEXANDRA LODGE NO:985 OF LONG SUTTON HELP THE FRIENDS OF MOULTON HILL

W.Bro. W.J. Woods, Master of Alexandra Lodge presents a cheque for £750 to Mr. Byron Hahn and Mr. Paul Bellamy of Friends of Moulton Mill. The cheque will help in the restoration of this rather spendid mill.

ST JAMES LODGE NO:5471 (GRIMSBY) AND CONSTITUTIONAL LODGE NO:294 (BEVERLEY) HOLD SPECIAL CEREMONY

North and South Banks of the Humber recently came together in an unsual double 2nd Degree ceremony at Grimsby Masonic Hall. St James Lodge in Grimsby invited Constitutional Lodge in Beverley to share a double 2nd Degree ceremony. It took place on the occasion of the Official Visit by the Provincial Junior Grand Warden of Lincolnshire, W.Bro. John B. Crutchley.

This unusual event came about at the initial instigation of two Brothers (in the family sense) - W.Bro Neil Charlesworth of St James Lodge (below left) and his real brother W.Bro. Keith Charlesworth of Constitutional Lodge (below right) - with both candidates and Worshipful Master of St James Lodge.

A number of Brethren from Constitutional Lodge came along to support their candidate and to have their passports stamped as they crossed the Humber Bridge. A wonderful night was had by all and a return invitation was issed to the Brethren of St James Lodge to visit Constitutional Lodge.

FENLAND DAYLIGHT LODGE NO:9825 MAKE PRESENTATION TO SUTTON ST JAMES PRE SCHOOL PLAYGROUP

ANTIQUES ROADSHOW COMES TO HORNCASTLE
On Saturday 10th October Rudyard Kipling Lodge No:9681 hosted an Antiques Roadshow.
David Leyland of VOC Antiques, Woodhall Spa kindly agreed to act as the expert on the evening.
A wide variety of antiques and collectables were brought by members of Horncastle lodges and £125:00 was raised towards the 2014 Festival.

LODGE OF ESTABLISHED ORDER HELPS THE LINCOLNSHIRE WILDLIFE TRUST

the Lodge of Established Order No:9822 has presented £900 to the Lincolnshire Wildlife Trust and the following will be appearing in their Trust News Magazine.


The Worshipful Master of the Lodge of Established Order, Kevin Palmer, accompanied by his Charity Steward W. Bro. John Chandler present a cheque for £900 to the Barton Branch Chairman Mr Martin Broadbridge at the Waters Edge Visitor Centre in Barton on Humber.

The donation is part of the New Lincolnshire Benevolent Fund’s allocation of £45,000 which is given annually to non Masonic Charities in the Masonic Province of Lincolnshire, for the benefit of local causes.

The Lodge of Established Order is a relatively new lodge which was formed for the benefit of Masons in public service and has members spread throughout the County and as such felt the Lincolnshire Wildlife Trust was an appropriate Charity to receive a donation.

Mr Martin Broadbridge thanked the W. Bro Palmer for the donation and assured him that the monies would be put to good use protecting the wild life in the County.

ILLUSTRIOUS BROTHER KEITH SAVAGE RETIRES AS RECORDER AFTER 25 YEARS AT ALEXANDRA CHAPTER ROSE CROIX NO:638

The Very Illustrious Inspector General for Lincolnshire for the Antient and Accepted Right, Geoffrey Mawer Cooper, recently presented an inscribed decanter and tumblers to Ill.Bro. Keith Savage of Alexandra Chapter Rose Croix No:638, Long Sutton to mark 25 years service as Recorder of the Chapter.

Ill. Bro. Savage retired last May and is seen centre with the V.Ill Inspector General, Geoffrey Mawer Cooper - left, and the Most Wise Sovereign of the Chapter, Ex.& P. Bro. J.R. Garner - right.
