W.BRO. MALCOLM COATES INITIATES 5th GENERATION MASON - HIS SON

Malcolm Coates is a well known and respected Mason in our Province - both through his regalia supply business in Hull, as a member of a Lincolnshire Lodge - Smyth Lodge No:2284 in Grimsby and by his continued support for the Province and its many Orders.

It came as no surprise then that when W.Bro. Malcolm Coates assited in the Initiation of his son Michael into Humber Lodge No:57 Yorkshire North & East Ridings in Hull there was a large contingent of visitors from Lincolnshire to support Malcolm on the night - and what a splendid evening was had by all.

Present in the photograph behind W.Bro. Malcolm Coates are left to right: W.Bro. John Trout, PAPGM Yorkshire North and East Ridings; W.Bro. Jonathan Smith the current Provincial Senior Grand Warden for Yorkshire North and East Ridings; W.Bro. Peter Donnison, Michael's seconder; the Worshipful Master of Humber Lodge, Bro. Phillip Watts and W.Bro. John Board the APGM from Lincolnshire.

Again behind W.Bro. Malcolm Coates are left to right: W.Bro. Peter Donnison, Michael's seconder and 57 years a member of Humber Lodge No:57; Bro. Michael Coates and the Worshipful Master of Humber Lodge, Bro. Phillip Watts

On a very emotional night, a crowded Lodge Room and Festive Board was testimony to the high regard in which W.Bro. Malcolm Coates is held and also the wish to welcome his son who is the fifth generation of the family to come into Freemasonry. It is interesting to note that 2 days after his Initiation ceremony was the 100th anniversary of Michael's great, great, grandfather's investiture as Grand Chaplain of the United Grand Lodge of England.

The evening was yet another example of the great friendship and harmony within Freemasonry and between our two Provinces.

LINDSEY LODGE No:712 HOLD UNIQUE CEREMONY

The last meeting of Lindsey Lodge in Louth saw the Initiation of Nick Higham - not a unique event in itself. However, he was the third of three brothers to join the Lodge in which their father is also a member.

W.Bro. David Higham, a Joining Member of Lindsey Lodge from a Lancashire Lodge, was justifiably pleased and proud to have been able to bring all three of his sons into Masonry. All of the family did a piece of work in the ceremony to welcome Nick into Lindsey Lodge.

To have a Lewis (the name given to the son of a Mason) in one Lodge is fairly common but three must rate as a unique achievement - even for a Lodge dating back to 1857. Congratulations to the Lodge and the Higham family on this remarkable achievement.
